Director Alex Gibney is apparently giving us the Hunter S. Thompson documentary we’ve all been waiting for - Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. And boy-oh-boy does it look pretty swank.
Gibney interviews a vast array of people trying to get as many point of views from as many sides as he can. Some of the notables are: Sonny Barger (Hell’s Angels), Jimmy Carter, Pat Buchanan, George McGovern, Ralph Steadman, Douglas Brinkley, Jann Wenner, Juan Thompson, George Stranahan, Jimmy Buffett, Gary Hart, Anita Thompson… and that’s not even half of them.
Johnny Depp is predominantly featured in this film, reading excerpts from Thompson’s works as well as being glimpsed in several excerpts from Terry Gilliam’s film of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
The movie is set to hit theaters on the 4th of July - Independence Day. Quite appropriate. you can check out the trailer below.
