Wilhelm Scream Compilation

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

In 2007 at some nerd convention, a dude screened his ode to the ever popular cinematic scream – The Wilhelm Scream. Above is that very compilation in all its loving “AHHHHH!” Though not a full list of all the films that have used The Wilhelm Scream, it is still a compelling documentation of one of the most recognizable sound effects ever. And a means to a great drinking game.

Quarantine The Game

Sony Screen Gems has released Quarantine The Game into the Internets as a promotional for the upcoming movie Quarantine, which is due out this October.

It’s a fun little romp through the apartment complex filled with the infected which you must make your way around to make it to your objective. Objective, shmobjective – this game is about rendering zombie-type freaks into a pile of red goo with whatever you can find.

Fun stuff.

Apparently ghosts of Thailand are very fearful of Sylvania brand light bulbs, yet transvestites are not. Strange.

Watchman Trailer

Friday, July 18th, 2008

I know a tun-and-a-half nerds that are fretting if the Watchman movie will stay true to the actual comic. After seeing this I would hope most of you can settle the hell down, ’cause this looks pretty spot-on if you ask me.

And if you don’t know who or what the Watchman is, you suck. Well at the very least you’re uneducated in what is arguably one of the most important comics in history… really, it’s true. So to help school you here’s the general plot of the film:

A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, the film is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” – which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion – a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers – Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity…but who is watching the Watchmen?

Swank, yes?

Zombies Eat Brains And Clay [Kind of NSFW - Gore]

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Seems that claymation and zombies is becoming a big thing. First there was Chainsaw Maid, now there’s Zombies Eat Brains and Clay, a full-length film currently in the works. Featuring the voices by Daniel Roebuck (River’s Edge and TV’s Lost) and Chuck Williams (Puppet Master 5: The Final Chapter and Bubba Ho-tep), the film is due out sometime this year.

Mad Scientist Showdown – Doctor Steel Vs. Dr. Horrible!

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

I have to be honest, I knew it would eventually come to this. Doctor Steel, a mad scientist who has been steadily making grounds for world domination through his toys and music, is now fully aware of Joss Whedon’s newest creation – Dr. Horrible, another mad scientist who has just begun his quest for world domination through just his music. And I think it’s safe to say that the rubber gloves have been thrown.

Doctor Steel fans, err I mean ‘troops’, have rallied behind their master for a full-on assault upon Whedon and his Dr. Horrible with Operation: Expose Dr. Horrible, a cunning plan that involves the ‘education’ of the Internet masses. They point out all of the similarities between these two diabolical Doctors beyond the whole singing and rubber gloves, such as:

Both use propaganda tools to spread their plans for world domination.
Both have a Q&A segment (“Ask Dr. Horrible” and “Ask Doctor Steel”).
Both have similar titles to their respective releases (Dr. Horrible’s “Sing-Along Blog” videos and Doctor Steel’s “Read-A-Long” album).

Joss, we like you and all so we’ll be kind enough to tell you this; Doctor Steel’s fans are like your fans – rabid, undyingly loyal and willing to do just about anything for their lord and master. Be ready.

And to give you a taste of what you’re up against Mr. Whedon , here’s one of Doctor Steels propaganda videos. Good luck.

While we’re on the subject of upcoming video games, here’s a trailer for the highly anticipated Ghostbusters: The Video Game. Well, highly anticipated by a lot of nerds… of which I am one of. So shove it.

Technically a sequel to the films, the game stars Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray reprising their roles as Spengler, Stantz, Zeddmore and Venkman. The game plot is pretty straightforward:

With Manhattain newly overrun by ghosts and other supernatural creatures, it’s up to you to take on the role of a new recruit joining the original, famous Ghostbusters team. Equipped with a variety of unique weapons and gadgets, you will hunt, fight and capture a wide range of uncanny phantasms and demons in an all-new, funny and frightening battle to save New York City from its latest paranormal plague.

Activision is releasing the game this October for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PC, Wii and Nintendo DS.
