Luna Maris

Steve Archer, part of the amazing musical team Ego Likeness, has written and illustrated his first children’s book - Luna Maris. The book’s story is pretty neat:

“We all have questions…even the moon. On his night off, the moon decides to journey to the earth in search of the answer to a burning question: What is the ocean for?”

The book is due to hit the world soon (not too sure as to when that is). In the meantime here’s an interview with Archer about the book, how it came together and the process of creating the illustrations -

Splatter Disco

Splatter DiscoHere my fellow horror fans is the official poster for the upcoming film Splatter Disco by indie filmmaker Richard Griffin and will be released by Shock-O-Rama films. The cast includes Ken Foree of Dawn of the Dead and Devil’s Rejects fame, William DeCoff, Lynn Lowry (The Crazies), Alexandra Cipolla, Trent Haaga, Debbie Rochon, Sarah Nicklin, Jason McCormick, Ashley Eaton, Carlos Brum, Brandon Aponte and Brian Mullen.

Griffin describes the film as:

“The best way I can describe Splatter Disco is to imagine It’s A Wonderful Life meets The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as directed by Chuck Jones!”

Which to ZMP sounds like quite the fun romp. To further the lovely descriptives, the film is about

“the sanctimonious citizens of a provincial Rhode Island town attempt to close down the local fetish club just before the holidays, a series of mysterious and brutal murders expose an even greater threat to them all.”

A local fetish club gone asunder? Say it ain’t so?

Splatter Disco is due out this November.

It’s Official: Del Toro to Direct Hobbit Films

Del ToroIt’s official - Guillermo del Toro has agreed to direct the two Hobbit films that the true Lord and Master of Fandom, Peter Jackson is producing. Nerds Worldwide rejoice.

Del Toro will be moving to New Zealand, spending about four years to make the two films back-to-back while utilizing the vast JackSon Empire (Wingnut and WETA Digital) to bring his vision of the Tolkien world to life.

“I am indeed blessed to become a part of the filmmaking community that Peter, Fran and their extraordinary team of collaborators have created in New Zealand,” del Toro said. “Contributing to the ‘Lord of the Rings’ legacy is an absolute dream come true.”

It is for us as well Guillermo. It is for us as well indeed.

RavenCon

ZMP will be heading to Richmond, Virginia for RavenCon, a SciFi con filled with all sorts of nerdy things. We’ll be sure to take a lot of pictures and such. I’ll (Dave) be pimping my art in the Art Show too. If you’re in Richmond stop on by and say yo.

Lost Boys 2: The Tribe Trailer

Uhm, so yeah. The ’80s vampires-in-mullet-hair cult classic Lost Boys is getting a sequel - Lost Boys 2: The Tribe. But I am disheartened to say that only one of the Coreys will be in the film. Corey Feldman will return to his over the top, dorktastic role of Edgar Frog, the bloodsuker killer with all the bad lines. As far as we can tell the other Corey (Haim) may only have a brief appearance, which will be disappointing I know.

But it is filled with pretty vampires from Cali. That’s something, right? Nah, it ain’t. Who are we kidding anyway.

The movie will be released on DVD sometime this summer.

Watchman Director Wants You Fake Products

Zack Snyder, director of the upcoming film adaptation of the comic cult classic Watchman is having a contest - create an advertisement for a fake product. If it wins he’ll plaster it somewhere in the movie. Users of YouTube will be asked to help narrow down the submissions. Up to 20 fictitious commercials could make it in the film, those winners caching in on $1000.00 each.

Get to it fanboy.

Earth Day PSA

In celebration of today being Earth Day, we here at ZMP would like to bring you this Public Service Announcement -

It’s time to get all Hippy and clean up the planet or Mother Nature will somehow mutate into some sort of zombie-topiary, as this video clearly demonstrates.

The Andromeda Strain Trailer

This Memorial Day weekend A&E releases their remake of The Andromeda Strain, a ’70s movie that was based on the Michael Crichton novel of the same name.

Now I am one for slamming remakes. Most times you can just smell the taint of “bad” lurking within. But I will admit that this revision of the quintessential biological apocalypse may be pretty swank, especially since it will be far closer to Crichton’s version than the ’70s film, and Ridley Scott has his fingers all over it too.

For those who have never read the novel (shame on you) or seen the original film (again, shame on you), the general story goes something like this:

An entire town is killed by a mysterious virus brought to earth by a returning satellite. A search through the town reveals two survivors: a baby and an old man. Why the virus spared them could provide the key for immunizing the populace. A crack team of scientists isolates themselves with the survivors in an underground laboratory, and now they only have a few days to find a cure before the world is destroyed.

Below is a trailer for the A&E version followed by one for the ’70s version, which was considered pretty good in them there days.

Monkey With Gun Art

I’m pretty sure an explanation as to why this piece is at least three shades of kick-ass isn’t necessary, now is it?
