The Simpsons vs Star Trek Awesomeness

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

To mash-up the themes from The Simpsons and Star Trek is one thing. It’s kind of cute but it lacks any real “WOW” factor. But to do so whilst using a Theremin most certainly attains that “WOW” factor, and dare I say takes things to a much higher state of awesomeness.

The Vaderatrix [Kind of NSFW: Vinyl-Clad Villainess]

Friday, April 17th, 2009

So I was Googling various nonsense to see what would come up via Google images whilst I read my morning emails and sipped my thinking juice (aka: coffee). Eventually I found this gem of a picture;

Vaderatrix

Behold! The Vaderatrix! Alluring yet frightening! Disturbing yet awesome! I mean come on, she (or he ’cause one never knows) even has the life-support doohickey and the utility belt. All that’s missing is the whip and a bottle of Astroglide. Once again this proves that geeks are some of the kinkiest freaks on this green rock.

I’m sure this picture has already made the rounds but hell, how can I not share something like this? I have no idea where the original photo comes from, so if you know let me know, but from the looks of it the shot was probably taken at a convention. Shocker I know.

Certainly puts a new twist to the famous Star Wars quote “And now, your highness, we will discuss the location of your hidden rebel base… “

My New Fave Nerd Band – The Browncoats

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

The Browncoats are a Firefly fan band that seems to have embraced the embodiment of everyone’s favorite badass from the Vers – Jyane. They’re scruffy, tattooed, drunk, rowdy and toqued. And to further prove it they just released their new video of their cover of the song The Hero of Canton.

PrettyGeek.net

Fellow blogger, geek and really good friend of mine Hugh Casey has a fantastic site for those who have a fine appreciation of sexy geeks. PrettyGeek.net features various photographs of geeks in nerdtastic outfits ranging from the infamous Princes Leia slave girl bikini to pirates. If it’s a part of geek culture it’s probably going to make its way onto this blog. There’s nothing naughty about this site and is all around work safe, which for some I guess is a bit of a let-down. But hey, naked geeks isn’t what PrettyGeek.net is about. It is in fact all about showing the masses that geeks aren’t all a bunch of unwashed, unkempt, uncouth, socially inept freaks that live in their parent’s basement. Many can be pretty damned swank -and- frigging hot.

The Whisperer in Darkness Trailer

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

This is the trailer for the upcoming film The Whisperer in Darkness which is from HPLHS Motion Pictures, the same group that brought you the now cult classic silent film adaptation of The Call of Cthulhu (a movie that every Lovecraft fan should see). It looks like they’re keeping the old time feel to this Lovecraft adaptation as well, but in the style of a 1940’s noir film.

Rise and Fall of the Nazi Dinosaurs

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Witness as a crack team of paratroopers investigate an icy base camp with a diabolical secret hidden deep within a sinister laboratory. There lying in wait are the most insidious and evil creations mankind has ever seen! Evil in the form of Nazi Dinosaurs! God save us all.

This snazzy little film was created by artist Alex Poutianinen in just five days and for just 20 bucks. Yeah, it shows but non the less it’s clever and funny.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen Trailer

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Some of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was filmed here in Philly, so I’m kind of interested in this sequel for that reason more so than the fact that it’ll probably have the highest Michael Bay Blowing Shit Up (TM) ratio than any other movie to date. And as many of you know I just love fiery explosions. The trailer definitely gives you a glimpse into what you can expect from this film – lots of things blowing up, being demolished and us puny humans cowering before our intergalactic robot interlopers.

The film is due to crush your theaters on June 29th.

Half-Life Fan Film: Escape From City 17

Friday, February 13th, 2009

My fellow Half-Life fans, I present to you something awesome – Escape From City 17, a Half-Life 2 fan film. Directed by the Purchase Brothers, this is just part one of what will hopefully be a long series of shorts based on the hit video game from Valve.

From their YouTube profile:

The Escape From City 17 short film series is an adaptation based on the Half Life computer game saga by Valve Corporation. Originally envisioned as a project to test out numerous post production techniques, as well as a spec commercial, it ballooned into a multi part series. Filmed guerilla style with no money, no time, no crew, no script, the first two episodes were made from beginning to end on a budget of $500.

I really hope they continue with this project since it’s far better than anything Hollywood could produce I’m sure.

Fanboys Opens This Weekend

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

The much anticipated nerd comedy “Fanboys” is hitting selected theaters this Friday (including Philly). For those of you not in the know the film is about the following:

It’s 1998 and Star Wars fanboys across the globe eagerly await the release of Episode I. But for Eric, Linus, Hutch and Windows the term “fanboys” is more than just a title, it’s a badge of honor. Spurred by impatience and an undying loyalty to their cause, these former high school friends reunite to undertake the road trip of their fan-tasies. Traveling West across the country to visit their Mecca – George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch – the plan is to break in, steal the film and stake their claim as the first fanboys in history to watch it. But to secure their place in the fanboy hall of fame, they’ll have to contend with bizarre bikers, a crazy pimp, a deranged group of trekkies and the quiet intensity of William Shatner.
