This Saturday we’ll be attending Jeff Mach’s The Totally Normal Event, a benefit show for the SPARC Summer Experience which is a summer program for gifted youth combining elements of summer camp with the multilevel benefits of rigorous academic achievement. In other words a summer camp for really smart kids, much smarter than you and I most likely.
The event includes a tun of performers like The Dresden Dolls, Freezepop, The White Elephant Burlesque Society, The Mighty Mike Saga, Voltaire and many more.
You’ll also find all sorts of vendors and artists, including our big sister Grendel’s Den Design Studio offering spooky art, which we all know you dig.
There’s even a big interactive back-story and plot you can participate in throughout the event. Not too sure what it is but my bet is on some sort of fantasy based theme.
In any case it’s all for a good cause and you should go.
The nominees for the 2008 Eisner Awards have been listed. It’s pretty damned pack with talent in all aspects of the comic industry. Included are some who are well overdue for their kudos, in particular ZMP fave Barry Windsor-Smith, who is up for a nomination into the Hall of Fame. Long overdue in our opinion.
Some other ZMP favorites nominated are:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8, by Joss Whedon, Brian K. Vaughan, Georges Jeanty, and Andy Owens for Best Continuing Series and Best New Series. Also for Joss Whedon and Brian K. Vaughan, Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Best Writer.
Y: The Last Man, by Brian K. Vaughan, Pia Guerra, and Jose Marzan, Jr. for Best Continuing Series.
And ZMP’s all time favorite comic of all, The Goon has another strong representation…
Dwight T. Albatross’s The Goon Noir, edited by Matt Dryer for Best Humor Publication, and Eric Powell, The Goon for Best Writer/Artist—Humor… and Eric Powell, The Goon: Chinatown for Best Painter or Multimedia Artist (interior art).
Congratulations to all the nominees!

This year’s Philly Zombie Crawl was a brain-smashing success. Over 200 of Philly’s finest zombies converged upon South Street for booze and braaaains. The night kicked off at Tattooed Mom where folks got themselves zombiefied through the magic of makeup and beer. Once everyone was properly brain dead the horde of the undead shambled down the streets and alleyways of the South Street area. Once finished with that we all went out into the chilly night to other bars to help spread the virus. The night ended at Fluid nightclub for the punkrock go-go night Fast, Cheap & Out of Control.
You can check out all of the pics from the night here.
