The Vaderatrix [Kind of NSFW: Vinyl-Clad Villainess]

Friday, April 17th, 2009

So I was Googling various nonsense to see what would come up via Google images whilst I read my morning emails and sipped my thinking juice (aka: coffee). Eventually I found this gem of a picture;

Vaderatrix

Behold! The Vaderatrix! Alluring yet frightening! Disturbing yet awesome! I mean come on, she (or he ’cause one never knows) even has the life-support doohickey and the utility belt. All that’s missing is the whip and a bottle of Astroglide. Once again this proves that geeks are some of the kinkiest freaks on this green rock.

I’m sure this picture has already made the rounds but hell, how can I not share something like this? I have no idea where the original photo comes from, so if you know let me know, but from the looks of it the shot was probably taken at a convention. Shocker I know.

Certainly puts a new twist to the famous Star Wars quote “And now, your highness, we will discuss the location of your hidden rebel base… “

National Haunters Con and Philly Zombie Crawl Pics

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

So this past weekend I attended the National Haunters Convention, which took place at the Valley Forge Convention Center right outside of Philly. It’s a mix of a Haunted Attraction trade show and Halloween enthusiast show and included a tour of a local haunt named the Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride. There was a lot going on for me including running a class. A fun time was had by all.

And ’cause I’m a glutton for punishment, Sunday was the 4th annual Philly Zombie Crawl on South Street. My guess, and it’s just that, is that we had some 400 zombies wandering around South Street from bar to bar. All in all it was pretty successful. Being that I’m one of the organizer monkeys there was a lot going on for me. A fun time was had by all.

Sooo… Instead of going through all of the details of both events you can peruse all of the photographs I took this past weekend. Think of it as a gruesome picture book instead of me being a lazy bum.

PrettyGeek.net

Fellow blogger, geek and really good friend of mine Hugh Casey has a fantastic site for those who have a fine appreciation of sexy geeks. PrettyGeek.net features various photographs of geeks in nerdtastic outfits ranging from the infamous Princes Leia slave girl bikini to pirates. If it’s a part of geek culture it’s probably going to make its way onto this blog. There’s nothing naughty about this site and is all around work safe, which for some I guess is a bit of a let-down. But hey, naked geeks isn’t what PrettyGeek.net is about. It is in fact all about showing the masses that geeks aren’t all a bunch of unwashed, unkempt, uncouth, socially inept freaks that live in their parent’s basement. Many can be pretty damned swank -and- frigging hot.

Working GameBoy Costume

Friday, February 13th, 2009

This is indeed a working Nintendo GameBoy costume that an ingenious lad made for Ohayocon 2009. Puts a whole new spin to the phrase “Push my buttons.” Makes one hell of a pickup line at a convention though.

Saloncon Photos

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Here’s some shots from this past weekend’s Saloncon, with your fearless leader being schooled in what happens when you taunt a woman with a clockwork arm. The story goes something like this…

Me: Hey there lady, that’s a fine hat ya gots there.
Lady: Why thank you! I love it quite well, I do.

Me: You know I could hang that thing easily twixt my nether region ya know.
Her: Why dear sir, I never…

Me: AGGHAAA!
Her: Take that you unkempt cad!

Fun story ain’t it? I guess that schooled me good. In any case you can see a tun of photos from this past Saloncon on their Flickr profile. And if you’re looking for some ass-kicking Steampunk gear, like the clockwork arm in these pictures, go and check out Brute Force Leather.

Saloncon

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Zombie Monkey Projects is off to Saloncon, a gathering for folks who do what we oldsters call ‘Steampunk’. Lots of you young’ns like to call it ‘Neo-Victorian’… or yeah, Steampunk. Right. There’s a Steampunk meetup tonight and a load of things to do tomorrow. Check out the website for the shindig’s full schedule, which include a performance from Abeny Park. In any case I’ll be pushing my artwork, so be sure to look for the Grendel’s Den Design Studio banner.

So here’s a video from the headlining band Abney Park.

The Totally Normal Event

Friday, June 27th, 2008

SPARCThis Saturday we’ll be attending Jeff Mach’s The Totally Normal Event, a benefit show for the SPARC Summer Experience which is a summer program for gifted youth combining elements of summer camp with the multilevel benefits of rigorous academic achievement. In other words a summer camp for really smart kids, much smarter than you and I most likely.

The event includes a tun of performers like The Dresden Dolls, Freezepop, The White Elephant Burlesque Society, The Mighty Mike Saga, Voltaire and many more.

You’ll also find all sorts of vendors and artists, including our big sister Grendel’s Den Design Studio offering spooky art, which we all know you dig.

There’s even a big interactive back-story and plot you can participate in throughout the event. Not too sure what it is but my bet is on some sort of fantasy based theme.

In any case it’s all for a good cause and you should go.

Midwest Haunters Convention Photos

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Midwest Haunters ConventionJust uploaded all of the pictures from the Midwest Haunters Convention, which you can find here.

As you can see from the picture to the left, it was quite the event. Lots of blood, guts, gore and Elder God Lov’n. Fun times indeed.

We hit the Friday bus tour which took us to the Scare Factory, which is the FX company who host the History Chanel’s Surviving History. Then it was off to local club BoMA for some spooky-fun-time with the Club Vampire gig, a traveling night club, from The Terrorwithin.

Saturday night was the The IAHA Masquerade Party, which was monster-filled – just the way ZMP likes it.

Anywho, go on and check out the photos from the weekend. We’re just going to continue recuperating here at the ZMP labs.

Midwest Haunters Convention

Friday, June 13th, 2008

We’re here in Columbus, OH for the Midwest Haunters Convention this weekend hanging out with our fellow spooksters. We’ll be jumping on the bus tour, which will hit some of the local haunted attractions and a goth club. Pictures will be taken of all the nefarious deeds.

If you happen to be around the vendors section will be open Saturday and Sunday, which is where we’ll be manning the Grendel’s Den Design Studio booth, number 612. Stop on by and say hi.

You can find full details at the Midwest Haunters Convention website.

In the meantime, here’s a video from last year’s shindig.
