The Simpsons vs Star Trek Awesomeness

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

To mash-up the themes from The Simpsons and Star Trek is one thing. It’s kind of cute but it lacks any real “WOW” factor. But to do so whilst using a Theremin most certainly attains that “WOW” factor, and dare I say takes things to a much higher state of awesomeness.

Bring Me The Head Of Charlie Brown [Kind of NSFW: Violence]

Jim Reardon is a director and storyboard consultant best known for his work on The Simpsons. During his student years at the California Institute of the Arts he created possibly one of the greatest cult classic animated shorts – Bring Me the Head of Charlie Brown, in which Charlie Brown is on the run from the Peanuts Gang after the Great Pumpkin puts a bounty on his head.

Monsters vs. Aliens Movie Trailer

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Yet another Dreamworks movie that will crush other films when it’s released into the wild – Monsters vs. Aliens. Hitting theaters March of 2009, the story will go thusly:

When California girl Susan Murphy is unexpectedly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall and is instantly labeled a “monster” named Ginormica. The military jumps into action, and she is captured and held in a secret government compound. The world learns that the military has been quietly rounding up other monsters over the years. This ragtag group consists of the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.; the macho half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link; the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B.; and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement time is cut short however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country.

As a last resort, under the guidance of General W.R. Monger (on a desperate order from The President), the motley crew of Monsters is called into action to combat the aliens and save the world from imminent destruction.

The film has a pretty amazing lineup including Reese Witherspoon, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, Seth Rogen and Stephan Colbert. Not too shabby at all.

And Monsters vs. Aliens will be released in 3D in select theaters. Nerdtastic.

NotLD: Reanimated

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Fancy yourself an animator? Love George Romero’s Living Dead franchise? Then NotLD: Reanimated is just for you. The premise is easy -

The project is a mass collaborative animation in which artists working in all media are given the chance to re-envision Might of the Living Dead. This can be done in any style, medium or approch. The only restrictions are:
-Must be your own work.
-Must match the original audio.
-Must be in Black and White.

Once they receive all of the submissions they’ll organize the materials and the timeline will be reanimated one scene at a time to create a completely new visual track. In other words they’re going to use various images to create a brand-new visual reimagining of Night of the Living Dead. Pretty swank if you ask me.

There’s more information and submission guidelines on the NOTLD: Reanimated site.

Below is an update of some of the materials received, giving you a better idea of what they are trying to accomplish.

Dead Space: Downfall Trailer [NSFW - Gore]

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Here is the trailer for the straight to DVD animated feature film Dead Space: Downfall, which is a prequel to the highly anticipated horror video game Dead Space. The story picks up where the original comic book series ended and takes place aboard the mining spaceship USG Ishimura.

If you’re unfamiliar with Dead Space, and you’re a video gamer, you should probably be slapped with a wet marmoset. Otherwise I highly suggest you check out the Dead Space website for more gruesome love’n.

Both the game and the animated feature are to be released at the same time this October.

Futurama: Bender’s Game Sneak Peek

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Here’s a little sneak peek into the next Futurama movie, Bender’s Game, which is set to be released late this year. Filled with nerdtastic Dungeons & Dragons references and various scifi puns, Bender’s Game tells the tale of how the Planet Express crew gets trapped in a fantasy world while in search for fuel.

“Everything is set into motion based on the high price of fuel, which is dark matter,” head writer and executive producer David X. Cohen told Wired.com in June. “Our crew tries to get to the heart of the problem…. Of course, strange events unfold.”

Yeah, like Leela turning into a very hot centaur.
