Roland Emmerich, the man who brought us such doomsday films as Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow, is bringing us yet another “End of the World” movie - 2012. For those of you who don’t use tinfoil hats 2012 is in some circles considered the year the world ends or we all become happy psychic-hippies. Obviously Emmerich is going for the wreck everyone’s shit up theory, so the films synopsis is simple:
With the Mayan calendar ending in 2012, a large group of people must deal with natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, typhoons and glaciers.
Right now Moviefone has the exclusive movie trailer, which is just a big dick-tease to what we can expect out of this film. And to add to the suspense you’re told at the end of the trailer to “Find out the truth. Google Search: 2012″, which leads me to believe there’s an ARG (Alternate Reality Game) lurking somewhere in the marketing of the film.
The film is due to be released on July 10, 2009 and thus far stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Thandie Newton, Woody Harrelson, Danny Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Oliver Platt.
